Faces on FilmFaces on Film

I've started a new photo project: "Faces on Film."

I came up with the concept because I love portraits of all kinds of people.

I'll be traveling to different locations in and around town. I will set up my white backdrop and take a portrait of anyone who wants to stop and stand in front of it. The pictures will be taken with my Hasselblad. I'll shoot with film and i'll process and print the portraits like I always do.

When I complete the portraits, my plan is to invite all of the subjects to an opening at my studio. All of the portraits will be hung and on display for all.

I'm so excited to get out into different venues and get people "as they are"! I've already heard, "but I look horrible, I haven't even taken a shower today!" That's what's so great ... My hope is that people will see that portraits can be simple and casual. Sometimes the best photos are the ones in which we think we look the worse.

This isn't the format I'm using for Faces on Film, but....here is a similarly casual "family photo" I gave my husband Tom for Father's Day. It's a self-timed shot and we all look dirty but happy!

If you want to be captured in my Faces on Film project, "LIKE" Julia Shapiro Photography + Art on Facebook. We'll post where we will be setting up -- everyone is welcome to stop by, showered or not!
