HONOR YOUR MOTHER! (Mother's Day is May 8th!)
I started having a special Mother's Day Shoot a few years ago and I have to say that it is most definitely one of my favorites! I am all about the "Generational Portraits." The older I get, the more important family pictures become to me. The snapshots are great, but it's the timeless black-and-white pictures I want to frame and spread all over my house.
I don't think I've ever met a mother who was excited to have their picture taken. The only thing that MIGHT losen them up is taking a portrait with their kids. I'm often reminding them that down the road, it will be a keepsake to treasure!
I always encourage parents to get in the photo. It's so important to pass these photos on to our children.
I have this photo of myself my mom and my older brother, Peter. It's on beautiful paper, it's black-and-white, and we all look good. I actually think it was taken at JC Penneys--yes, I am that old, that JC Penneys took really nice black-and-white pictures!
I have this photograph in a frame in my bedroom because it was a time I can remember. It was just Peter and I and my sister and younger brother weren't born yet. For some reason, this time in my life seems so vivid.
The other part that makes it special, is the fact that it is on beautiful paper and is timeless because it's black-and-white. The color snapshots, while they are fun, they don't have the everlasting quality of a great black-and-white studio shot!
It actually makes me want to have a portrait taken of myslef and my 2 little boys, other than a digital snapshot....maybe we'll head on over to JC Penneys?!?
