Every year I set aside one day, usually the Saturday before Mother's Day, to honor mothers and grandmothers by taking a roll of film of them with their children and grandchildren.

This event has definitely become more popular each year. It seems like people are recognizing the importance of having those Legacy portriats for keeps. We're all getting older--that's a good thing--and we need to capture and treasure the days that we have together.

I've definitely seen a change in the clientele that I photograph over the past couple of years. I think a lot of it stems from the popularity of the digital photographer. It's simple to go out and shoot a bunch of family photos whether it be done by ourselves or by a professional. Most of the time, these photos aren't suitable for framing, hanging on the wall, and passing through the generations. What doesn't seem to happen all of the time, is taking those photos off of our computers and putting them into frames.

This holiday season was one of my favorites! I spent most of it photographing generations of families -- Grandparents with grandchildren, parents with children, mothers with fathers and lastly, the one huge group all together.

In the "olden days," these more formal photographs were taken all of the time. We all have boxes and albums filled with these photographs of people we remember and many of ancestors we never met.

I love that my clients walk away with beautiful black-and-white, and especially, the hand-painted photographs that were taken with film....just like the olden days. The people and the photography process are reminiscent of days gone by!

Mothers and grandmothers, you are not alone! I too hate to have my picture taken! But, you have to do it! Don't be the one who isn't in any of the photographs because you are the one behind the lens! Make sure everyone in the future knows you existed! I actually let my husband Tom take this picture of me with my boys, Sid and Jed....and I love it!

The Mother's Day Event is a great way to get your photos done at a great price! Make it your families' Mother's Day tradition.
